2010 Environmental Strategists Promotion Program for South-East Asian Regional Nations
Application Guideline for Special Research Students, etc.

  1. Eligible applicants
    (1) Those who are citizens of one of the six countries covered by this program (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam)
    (2) Those who are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate (master's/doctor's) course of a university in one of the above countries, or those who have completed an undergraduate or master's course within the last 12 months and plan to enroll in an advanced course after completing this program
    (3) Those who specialize in environmental studies or other environment-related field such as energy, biotechnology, economy or politics, seeking actions or solutions expected to have particular significance in the ASEAN and East Asian regions
    (4) Those who have achieved excellent academic performance and fully understand the purpose of this program
    (5) Those who have a clear goal and plan for studying in Japan and for whom substantial benefits and effects are anticipated from this program
    (6) Those who intend to continue their academic pursuits after completing the period of this program
    (7) Those who must obtain a College Student visa definitely.
    (8) Those who have never been granted a Japanese Government Scholarship.
    (9) Those who will receive a total of no more than 130,000 yen per month from sources such as scholarships granted by other organizations, if any.

  2. Number of students to be admitted
    Total of 16 from the six target countries of this program
    (2 from Singapore, 2 from Malaysia, 5 from Indonesia, 3 from Thailand, 2 from the Philippines, and 2 from Vietnam)

  3. Program implementation period
    12 months from October 2010 to September 2011

  4. Financial support under this program
    The financial support to be provided for each student under this program shall be as follows:
    (1) Monthly stipend 130,000 yen/month
    (2) Relocation allowance 260,000 yen
    (3) Tuition Exempted

  5. Admission criteria
    (1) The applicant should have an academic grade point average (according to JASSO's calculation method) for the last school year of 2.30 or more.
    (2) In the case that it is difficult to calculate his/her academic grade point average, the applicant should have an excellent research theme and plan.
    (3) The applicant should have a recommendation from his/her instructor, department dean, or person of similar standing at the university he/she belongs to.
    (4) Admission of the applicant should be approved by the School of Engineering or the Graduate School of Engineering.
    (5) The applicant should have sufficient English language ability.

  6. Application documents
    (1) Application form (for Special Research Student or Special Auditor)
    (2) Research theme/research plan statement
    (3) An academic transcript (issued by the university the applicant belongs to or has graduated from)
    (4) Certificate of enrollment or certificate of completion
    (5) Letter of recommendation (issued by the instructor, dean, or person of similar standing of the university the applicant belongs to or has graduated from)
    (6) Certificate of English language ability (score certificate of TOEIC or TOEFL, or IELTS certificate)

  7. Application procedure
    Applicants are required to prepare all the above application documents and submit them to the Academic Affairs Division, Administrative Office for the Faculty of Engineering, etc., Kyushu University, by June 18, 2010 (Friday).

  8. Announcement of the result of screening
    Successful applicants will be notified of the results in writing on July 2, 2010 (Friday).
