The ground beneath our feet was once walked on and used by people of another era. This act of shaping and remaking space in response to the society of the time will continue as long as people live on the ground. Our research focuses on the behavior of people in such urban spaces and urban history.
As cities and regions around the world continue to modernize, they tend to lose their uniqueness (i.e., attractiveness) and urban spaces tend to become standardized. Our laboratory focuses on explaining the reality of urban culture through urban history research and on passing on urban culture through historical town planning activities.
With urban history at the core, we are conducting research activities that view on the past, present, and future of urban space.
