History

The Faculty of Engineering of Kyushu University was founded as the College of Engineering of Kyushu Imperial University in January 1911. It produced its first graduates in 1914.

In 1919 the College of Engineering was reorganized as the Faculty of Engineering.

In 1947, following national education reforms, Kyushu Imperial University was renamed Kyushu University. Since that time the faculty has continued to expand, responding to the learning and societal needs of the times. Today it comprises six departments offering 11 courses, and one education and research facility, which together encompass almost every area of engineering. Each academic year has an enrollment of 804 students, making the faculty the largest general undergraduate faculty at Kyushu University. As of April 1, 2017, the cumulative total of graduates produced by the facility stood at 47,522 persons (5,363 persons under the old system, 42,159 persons under the new system).
