Advanced Hydrogen Energy System Laboratory focuses on hydrogen energy in a means of the essential use of renewable energy toward the decarbonized society. Particularly, we study water electrolysis, which is a key technology to combine renewable energy with hydrogen energy, and fuel cells, which convert hydrogen to electrical energy. Among the components of water electrolysis and fuel cells, catalyst layers have an important role of determining their performance. Therefore, we focuses on designing the catalyst layers by synthesizing new materials, such as catalysts, porous carbon supports, proton/electron conducting polymers. Besides that, novel analytical methods have also been developed. We are contributing to the decarbonized society by improving both the performance and durability.
