Ships and offshore structures undergo dynamic loads from wave and cargo, and oscillating forces induced by engine and propulsion systems as well as static loads. To assure the safety of ships and offshore structures, the static and dynamic behavior of the structures under such various loads must be clarified. In the Structural Systems Engineering Laboratory, the comprehensive researches relevant to structural strength and crashworthiness of ships and offshore structures, light-weight structures applying composite materials and fluid-structure interaction problems are performed. Numerical and experimental techniques and tools for these problems are investigated and developed in the laboratory.
